About Me

Hello all!  I am Kristin.  I have been working with children for over 15 years as a before and after school leader, classroom teacher and now an in-home child care provider.  I have a bacholor's degree in English (Creative Writing), Political Science, Daycare Administration and Early Childhood Education.  I am married and have 3 children (one that is still home with me during the day).

I am excited to be getting ready to close this chapter of my life.  Next August, I will switch from doing licensed childcare with a maximum of 10 kids to doing part-time infant care with no more than 4 babies.  While I love preschoolers, I feel like downsizing my business will be very beneficial to my family and allow me to participate in some of the activities that the kids have in school.

During this next year, it is my goal to get my current daycare kiddos ready for formal education.  Through play, they already know some of the concepts needed to be successful in the classroom, but this year we are going to be more structured and focused on teaching them the "school" skills such as sitting in a group, lining up, and turn taking in a group.  Of course, we will also be working on themes and covering the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, patterns, position words, etc.

I've been at home for seven years and have spent a lot of money on supplies and teaching tools (oftentimes with good intentions, but never really using them to their full potential-sometimes not at all).   The goal of this blog is to hold me accountable to use what I already have.  "Cheap" for me is to buy very little to supplement what I already own or have access to.  Because I know that not everyone has the same stash that I have, I will always try to offer options for activities that can be done with materials found in the home.  Preschool can be cheap for everyone, sometimes it just takes a little more creative thinking!
